About five years ago, beauty insiders started raving about the complexion benefits of serums, which ran the gamut for different ages and skin types. Every week a new friend was starting to swear by some miracle elixir too. I wanted that glowy skin, fam. So, for the next few years, I tried a ton of serums. Sadly, each one gave my sensitive, acne-prone skin a gnarly breakout within a day after I used it.
After a long search, I was about to give up serums altogether…until I found Glossier’s Super Bounce ($28, Glossier). So I’m writing this ode for anyone else who’s had a hell of a time finding a serum their skin loves—or for anyone who just wants something fun to try on their face right now.
Super Bounce is hypoallergenic and water-based, unlike the oil-based serums that have tended to provoke blemishes for me in the past. It’s also packed with hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and maintain a smooth, supple complexion. It’s extremely lightweight—almost featherweight in feel, honestly—and soaks into my skin instantly. If I’m in a hurry and don’t have time for other steps, or I simply want a more matte base for makeup, Super Bounce also doubles as a hydrating primer. If I use just the serum, my skin ends up looking plump and pristine but not overly moisturized or slick, which can sometimes prevent my foundation from going the distance anyway.
Of course, Super Bounce a
lso goes extremely well with the rest of my regimen for that glowy skin I’ve been craving for years. As soon as I started integrating the serum in combination with my moisturizer and highlighter, my friends started asking how my skin looked so bright and beautiful. (Guysssss! I blush.)
I’ve had acne since age nine, and I’ve tried plenty of “noncomedogenic” products that did, in fact, break me out. As it turns out, having that label on a product has not meant a whole lot for my skin. Sometimes noncomedogenic stuff breaks me out, and possibly comedogenic ingredients have been completely fine. So, while I obviously can’t speak for everyone’s acne-prone skin, Super Bounce has been a godsend for me.
To conclude, I'm finally convinced that serums aren't all hype. After trying literally more than 50 different types in the past few years, I finally found my serum soulmate.Glossier Super BounceA lightweight water-based serum containing hydrating hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. $28 at Glossier
