I’m just going to come right out and say it: I’m not a puffer-jacket type of girl. I have no doubts about their ability to shield my shivering body from the cold, but when you’re working with a large bust and curves like mine, puffy coats tend to look overly boxy. Convinced I’d keep wool coats in my closet until the end of time, I was borderline shocked about how stylish (and decidedly not boxy) I looked after slipping into the Lululemon Cloudscape Jacket, which the brand was kind enough to let me test out.
I was a little apprehensive about even trying it on in the first place. Not only was it as puffy as they come, but its dusty orange hue was also a departure from my usual color preferences, which tend to be more toned-down and minimal. But as soon as I slipped the jacket over my shoulders and glanced at myself in the mirror, I quickly fell in love with both its fit and color. Unlike other puffer jackets of the past that have made me feel like I’m wearing a comforter instead of a coat, this one is slightly cropped, with lots of zippers for smaller items, like my keys, phone, and lip balm.
Since it’s made with breathable, waterproof fabric, too, I can wear it in most weather conditions—from chillier days to full-on downpours—and feel warm but never overheated. The jacket snaps closed in front with an asymmetrical fit, which thankfully means spending way less time fiddling with closing buttons in the cold. Oh, and I’m also convinced that it somehow makes my bust look smaller, even though it’s filled with goose down, which helps in winter since cold is practically my middle name. Probably my favorite detail, though, is its super-puffy hood, which I’ve contemplated falling asleep in many times over. Not only is it thick enough to keep the cold off my neck, but wearing it on my head feels like snuggling into a literal cloud (hence the name Cloudscape)—or at least the inside of the coziest cocoon ever.
And the more I wear the puffer jacket, the more it seems like everyone else has fallen in love with it too. Everywhere I wear the jacket—from running errands to working out—it becomes a conversation starter. Most recently I was stopped by a stranger in an aisle at my local Target just so they could take a closer look at the details of it, and other times I’ve heard people audibly gasp after finding out the coat is made by a sportswear brand, like Lululemon. Needless to say, this awesome piece has made me a believer in the puffer jacket movement, and I’m convinced it’s the only aggressively puffy jacket worth having this winter.
